I have always loved the saying, ‘Imagine what you would do if you knew you couldn’t fail’. For me, it wasn’t possible to fail or do something wrong. You just ended up with something that didn’t look the way you expected.
My first business was importing merchandise from India to sell in Australia at markets. One of my Indian suppliers told me I wouldn’t succeed because I was a woman, but that was his point of view. My point of view was different. If I had believed him, I would not be where I am today. I was still willing to follow my knowing, and to be joyful about every choice I was making.
Determination in business is about knowing what is true for you. Never stop anything just because somebody says you can’t do it.
When you are doing business, you also have to be willing to have everything and to lose everything as well as the willingness to change anything and everything when it’s not working for you. If you can come out of all your judgements and conclusions about what something is supposed to look like and simply perceive and receive what is in front of you, you will have far more choice in your universe. Whenever you go into judgement about anything, including whether something is going to succeed or not, you cut off your capacity to receive anything beyond that judgement.
A lot can be gleaned from my personal journey of success in business. Essentially, be true to you and follow joy; never give up, never give in. Stay firm in what you know and don’t be swayed by other people’s points of view, yet be willing to change when things aren’t working.
