I was having a conversation with someone in one of my classes recently who likes to be in control of everything about her business. So I challenged her to go an entire month being totally out of control. This started a whole conversation about control, ducks, and totally different possibilities.
Most people have misidentified what they think being out of control is. It’s not dancing on tables. Your whole life isn’t going to become a tornado of ruins. What if being out of control is just the willingness to change?
I used to like to having all my ducks in a row. A lot of people think that’s how you have to run a business, but it isn’t.
I live and work with people who function in a totally different way. As Brendon would say, “I just kick my ducks all over the place!” Not trying to control everything they think business should be, gives them access to possibilities for creating ever greater and more successful businesses.
Anywhere you try to control your life and business is where you’re limited. You can’t go beyond whatever you control something as. If all your ducks have to be lined up, then you’re functioning from conclusions and computations of what your business requires rather than allowing it the possibility to be totally unlimited.
What have you defined as out of control so that you can justify avoiding it? Truly being out of control is the willingness to not go into judgment about you and your business and not making other people’s judgments important either. It’s looking at all the points of view about your business and not buying any of it.
Most people do business by trying to work everything out. They’ve decided things have to be a certain way, keeping their finger on every detail from budgets to branding trying to ensure everything stays as they’ve determined it should be. What if you were willing to create your business from doing whatever it takes no matter what it looks like? You might end up happier and wealthier than everyone around you.
When you recognize the places you’re doing control, you have choice with it. Until you’re willing to be aware of how you’re functioning, you can’t change anything.
To see what having all your ducks all over the place can create, play with asking these questions:
What are some ways I can start being totally out of control to create more for my life and business?
If I was being out of control, what possibilities could exist?
How much could I receive if I was out of definition and limitations, no longer relied on conclusions and computations, and allowed my business to be totally out of control instead?
Whatever you’ve been choosing, nothing outside of that can come into existence unless you’re willing to give up being a control freak. You and your business get to be as successful, fun, and expansive as you choose. But you have to allow it!
If you were willing to be totally out of control, what else would truly be possible?
