If someone were to ask you what you’re great at, how many things would you come up with? Do you think of just a few? Have you actually ever acknowledged all the things that you have done, explored, experienced, and learned in your life that are truly great? If you did, how much could your life change?

Most people hone in on a couple of capacities that they’ve deemed as their strengths and attempt to generate everything they want in their lives from those capabilities. They neglect to acknowledge what else they have available within their own wheelhouse.

In order to truly create the life that you desire, you want to invite every ounce of your greatness to participate.

To have greatness as your life, begin by acknowledging everywhere you already are great. Here are a couple of fun exercises you can do to begin to draw out all of your greatness:

Make a list! Enjoy compiling a list of everywhere you’re great. This isn’t a place to judge what greatness is and whether or not you achieved that. If you played soccer in the 3rd grade and were a fast runner, include that. That’s not judgment; it’s just true. If you’ve always been a fantastic speller or can easily solve puzzles, list those things. As you acknowledge all your greatness, you begin to have a sense of the limitlessness of you and what else you can create with your life that you hadn’t considered.

The more elements of greatness you include, the better. What industries have you worked in? Where have you traveled? What else have you given a go? How many great things have you done with your life that you’ve just disregarded without acknowledging them?

The brilliant gift of acknowledgement is that your world gets bigger. It’s as if whatever container you were using to define yourself is totally destroyed as you expand into many different territories. As you do so, you can begin to get a sense of the difference you actually are in the world. It is from that place that truly amazing and unlimited possibilities can emerge.

Ask questions. “What can I do with all of my greatness that I never considered?” Asking this question and others like it uncorks the creative flow. If you’re truly acknowledging what’s great about you, this will be a very fun question to ask. It invites you to consider possibilities that go way beyond what you’d previously concluded were the parameters of your life. What talents, capacities, or experience do you have that can generate more for your life right now?

Maybe you were a great musician in high school. Would it be fun for you to look at what you can do with that capacity now? Instead of delving into all the things you can’t do, what if you allowed what you know about music to contribute to you in unexpected ways? Could you tutor students online, offer instrument repair, or write jingles? Perhaps just playing a bit of music again would be enlivening. What would be fun for you to create in your life that you’ve never considered an option? Ask the questions that allow you to explore how much greater your life can be.

Stay away from conclusions. A lot of people try to quantify and qualify their capacities. This takes everything that was great and tries to force it into mediocrity. Any definitions or judgments you have of you, your life, or your greatness is where limitations begin. To have greatness, steer away from conclusions and judgments and keep asking questions.

Be greater! What if you could be even greater at more things? How much fun would that be and what would that create for your life? In order to discover more greatness you have to be willing to explore choices beyond what you’ve concluded are available. In other words, try new things! Rediscover the wonder and possibility you had as a child. How many things did you know you were great about you then? Allow your life to be an ever-evolving exploration of what else is great about you.

Acknowledging your greatness while choosing to be even greater allows you to create from the whole menu of you. Instead of always looking to the handful of skills or talents you’ve learned to lean on, you now have access to infinite possibilities. What else could you do, experience, and enjoy with your life if you were willing to be as great as you actually are?
